Symptom

You are doing a system conversion to SAP S/4HANA and use SAP HCM in S/4HANA in the Compatibility Pack. You also like to continue using HCM functionality on-premise beyond the limited usage rights of the compatibility scope.
The following SAP S/4HANA Transition Worklist item is applicable in this case.

Solution

Description

SAP ERP HCM is part of the SAP S/4HANA compatibility scope, which comes with limited usage rights. For more details on the compatibility scope, it’s expiry date and links to further information please refer to SAP Note 2269324 – Compatibility Scope Matrix for SAP S/4HANA on-premise. In the compatibility matrix attached to SAP Note 2269324, SAP ERP HCM component refers to the IDs 101, 117, 132, 414-420 and 422-424.
Please note that the usage of certain HR infotypes in SAP S/4HANA for non-HR processes is independent from the compatibility scope. For more information, refer to SAP Note 3369920.

SAP S/4HANA customers using HCM functionality on-premise can therefore continue using SAP ERP HCM in the so-called Compatibility Mode. HCM functionality can run in either a separate instance or single instance with SAP S/4HANA. The integration among both on-premise instances (SAP ERP HCM with SAP S/4HANA on-premise) is available via ALE in case SAP ERP HCM is running on separate instance. In case HCM functionality is running inside of SAP S/4HANA, then the integration is automatically given as part of Compatibility Mode.

Before expiry of the compatibility pack license, customers are required to migrate from SAP HCM Compatibility Pack in SAP S/4HANA to the designated alternative functionalities SAP SuccessFactors or SAP Human Capital Management for SAP S/4HANA (SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA).
SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA is available since SAP S/4HANA release 2022 and based on SAP ERP HCM with optimizations and selected innovations to leverage SAP S/4HANA. The planned scope matches the key functionality of SAP ERP HCM. Please find more information about the key functionality of SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA in this blog post. Please keep in mind that some of the known SAP HCM ERP functionality is not part of SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA, see SAP Note 3091160. Customers can run SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA either embedded or on a separate SAP S/4HANA on-premise instance.

As SAP SuccessFactors remains the primary focus of our HCM innovation at SAP, there are no plans for major additional functionality or re-architectures. It is intended as a bridge to give customers additional time to move to SAP SuccessFactors.

SAP SuccessFactors remains the primary focus of our HCM innovations and is therefore the go-to architecture in the HCM area. For customers who are not willing or able to move to SAP SuccessFactors in the near future, continuity and investment protection for HCM functionality on-premise is provided via SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA.

Required and Recommended Action(s)

SAP S/4HANA customers can use SAP ERP HCM until the expiry date of the compatibility pack license. Afterwards a migration to SAP HCM for SAP S/4HANA is required. If the current HCM configuration is affected by one or more simplifications (see SAP Note 3091160), the affected functionalities must be replaced by their alternatives, if applicable.
